"We are cultivators. Imagine the complexity that early Chicanos had to face in dealing with Anglo America and the Mexicans view towards them. There was no place for the Chicano in either group. Instead of harvesting bitterness, or allowing a victim mentality to infiltrate the barrios, Chicanos began to create a culture of their own." -The Barrio Pages
"The Barrio Pages" is a heartfelt exploration of life in the barrio, offering an intimate look at the struggles and triumphs of being Chicano/Latino. This book hopes to help break the cycle of violence, incarceration, and addiction that many face in these communities, providing honest reflections and spiritual perspectives. Through a series of poignant poems and insightful narratives, readers are invited to experience the raw and unfiltered realities of barrio life.
The book also highlights stories of success from individuals who have emerged from the barrio of CasaBlanca, showcasing their resilience and achievements. These stories serve as a testament to the strength and spirit of the community, inspiring others to believe in the possibility of change and growth.
"The Barrio Pages" is more than just a collection of reflections and poems; it is a celebration of the Chicano identity and a call to acknowledge and address the internal struggles that have long been part of barrio life. It aims to break the cycle of adversity by sharing both the challenges and the victories, ultimately bringing honor to God and hope to the community. May God bless all of you,
Gabriel R. Murillo

The first step in chasing my dreams was earning my GED. I knew there would be challenges, but the frustration of my 20-year career left me in a peculiar place. It was clear to me that the company did not care for its employees, in my opinion. I had a choice: either continue in a place where the quality of life was low, or show the world what I was made of. The fear of earning my GED had to be overcome....
My GED Story
Light & Salt Learning has been a blessing on my journey towards earning my GED. Kate Redmon is a terrific teacher, and her methods are ideal for someone like me who stopped learning math in the 5th grade. I cannot recommend her site enough. They have a YouTube page, a website, and are involved with several Facebook groups and other social media outlets. They also offer printable tests for practice. There are a plethora of teaching videos available to students.
Thank you, Kate. You have played a pivotal in helping me achieve my dream of earning my GED and degree.

The GED site is a one-stop resource for information, opportunities, and support. They are working hard to reach individuals who might not know about the strong support center available for their educational goals. The GED Testing Service focuses on changing perceptions of GED earners by educating the public and working with corporations to highlight the necessary attributes for earning a GED, such as determination, hard work, perseverance, and the ability to keep learning and growing. In my opinion, these are qualities any corporation would want in an employee.
The GED Testing Service is also expanding its efforts to provide skills for career advancement. They have launched a new podcast called Education UnplugGED, where you can hear inspiring stories, learn about new opportunities, and listen to individuals who care about your education. The podcast is available on Spotify and GED Testing Service media outlets. They now have an app available for download, called GED&Me. There are also other social media outlets and groups on FaceBook such as GED Testing Service and GED Graduates.
"At GED Testing Service, we have helped over 20 million students achieve high school equivalency and pursue a brighter future.
"The GED is more than a diploma. It’s a program for students to develop skills that lead to success in higher education and career growth. We strive to empower all students to improve their lives through education." GED site: About Us https://www.ged.com/about_us/

About me
If my life were to be reviewed, measured, and analyzed, many would conclude that I shouldn't be here today. I grew up in a tough town called Casa Blanca in Riverside, California. I was a statistic of barrio life—a dropout with no hopes of higher education, shackled by circumstances and falsehoods. As a Mexican-American, Chicano, I was limited by preconceived notions that achieving success or my dreams was a mere fallacy...
